If you are wondering how much does a 15000km service for a polo vivo should cost this is the place to look.  Answer  at 9 August 2013 R949.19 incl VAT.

The invoice should look like this:

  • 1 x Screw – R 18.12
  • 1 x Oil Filter – R 177.31
  • 3.7 x 94.51  Engine Oil – R 349.69
  • Labour half an hour – R 575 x .5 = R 287.50

Various branches of VW have different prices, so for instance oil can cost more at one place than another.  If you go to Lindsay Saker in Edenvale, like we at Pace Car Rental do, you will pay R575 per hour for labour, but if you go to the most popular branches like Hatfield or Rivonia you will pay about R750 per hour for the same work.

Another thing to check is the pollen filter.  Some garages change it without inspecting to see if it is dirty, always ask “does it really need to be changed if they want to change it on the first service.

Some garages will try to charge you for a full hour of labour, whereas the 15,000 km service for a Polo Vivo as specified by VW should only take half an hour.  Sometimes you will find that the branch will also try to bill 4 litres of oil rather than 3,7litres of oil.  This is incorrect, overfilling is not adivisable.

Most places will be able to send you a quote for a service before you get your service done, and it is a good idea to get one so that you can make sure that you don’t get overcharged.

Pace Car Rental is a specialist long term car rental business, and publish these articles on the cost of servicing as we have found that the information is not readily available to members of the public.
